A practical checklist for arriving well — SSN, bank, phone, housing and finding your footing.
The first month sets the pattern. Get administrative work out of the way early so you can focus on academics.
Week 1: Immigration and orientation
Attend all international student orientations, register with immigration where required, and confirm your student status.
Week 2: Bank and phone
Open a student bank account with your acceptance letter and passport. Get a local SIM before applying to jobs.
Week 3: Housing and long-term set-up
If in temporary housing, finalise longer-term accommodation. Verify tenancy terms carefully.
Week 4: Academic and social routine
Meet your academic advisor, join at least one student society, and find one Indian and one non-Indian friend group.
